Johnny Apple - South Africa's Got Talent 2013 Winner

Posted by Unknown Kamis, 17 Oktober 2013 0 komentar
It's been a long road to the finals but at the end of the day, we had a decent Top 6. For my money, it's a pretty solid line-up: while I might have had other favorites along the way, last night we were treated to a diverse selection of performers who all capably delivered a grand finale on their big night. In a night of do-overs, The Justin Leigh band, Luzuko Namba, Lil Diezo, Nadia Van Der Westhuizen and Johnny Apple, revisited and retweaked their earlier performances for their final faceoff.

Six acts anxiously awaited the final minutes of Thursdays  South Africa's Got Talent finale on ETV live from the Alex Theatre in Braamfontein. Before the moment of truth finally arrived the audience and the general viewing public were treated with a live performance from electrifying kwaito star Dr. Malinga or Malingarised the audience with his lovable personality and goofy choreographed moves that both entertained and admittedly moved me to get up of my sofa and malinga dance. After all the sms's from the shows loyal fan base were tallied, Johnny Apple was crowned the 4th Seasons winner in a contest that has to date been the most competitive.

Congratulations to Johnny Apple . He was a crowd favourite from his very first performance and rightfully so, he oozed confidence and humility that earned him a special place in the hearts of thousands of young South Africans who were swooning in his awesomeness and mesmerised by his good looks. I think his performance in the finals weren't as good as his auditions but nevertheless he still managed to pull off a remarkable performance that earned the well deserved title of the best act on the 4th Season of Sa's got talent.

Lil Diezo's performance was monumental in the finals, with shades of Tupac and Will Smith, this young rapper sang his heart out with perfectly timed metaphors and a flawless performance that would put many of our top local rap artists to shame, I'm sad that he didn't win, Over the course of Sa's got talents 4th season, Lil Diezo definitely grew in confidence he deserved to be in the final and I think he definitely deserved to win. Keep you head up homey, there's a bright future waiting for you.

Justin lee and Jamie Leigh, the talented sibling duo from Fairlands, Randburg who together make up the Justin Leigh band powered through the #SAGT as if they were meant to be in the finals and the rest of the audition portion of the show was just a formality. Having entered SAGT as a band who've only played together for 10 months,I think they are destined to one day win SAGT if this season only served as a taste of things to come. I'm telling you now........Watch this space.

While I'm sad that South Africa's most coveted talent show is now behind us, I look forward to season 5 where a brand new set of acts who were inspired by this season prepare themselves to set a new precedent. Thank you Rapid Blue and @KeeLeenIrvine for such a superb world class production.

South Africas got Talent semi Final 3

Posted by Unknown Rabu, 16 Oktober 2013 0 komentar
The Third and last semi final took place yesterday evening, after last night, the 6 top acts will have their final showdown on Thursday evening where the winner of the fourth season will be crowned. This has definitely been one of the most competitive seasons where the judges really had their work cut out for them, with only two places left, 4 really talented acts from last night are going to have to go home. Below are my favourites from last night.

This group of three couples have been together for the last nine years.
They have been dancing at Kim’s Dance Studio, and have been part of the Federation of Dancesport South Africa (FEDANSA) and World Dancesport Federation (WDSF). Their greatest ambition is to become world Latin dance champs. To add to that, their greatest accomplishment is that they all have are SA titles behind them.Their routine last night was bigger and far more flashy than their audition, Ian thinks that they over danced, I think their over the top performance was necessary

In last weeks semi final I was impressed with U.C.K who as a duo executed a very well synchornised dubstep performance. This week we have Luzuko "Ludopie" Namba, this young   Dubstepper from Margate Kzn, started dancing by imitating Micheal Jackson. Through the years, he has moved on to pantsula, hip hop, crumping, popping and locking, and eventually dubstep. His choreography was stunning and very creative. South Africa's very own Marquese Scott in the making. What really makes him stand out is that his dubstepping is a wonderful fusion of local dance styles. I hope he makes the final

Nadia has a great voice but I don't think her song choices in both her performances really resonated with the audience, her broad-way approach to the South Africa's got talent show may not be the best strategy to really show case her talent.

My Final 3 are Nadia Van Der Westhuizen, Lil Diezo and Johnny Apple. I think that if Nadia wants to stand a chance of winning SAGT she needs to step up her performance in the final by choosing a song that really brings out the best in her.

The Results show for semi-final 3 will take place (tonight)  Wednesday, 16 October at 21:35PM, the  Live Finale – Thursday, 17 October at 7:30PM and the Results show – Thursday, 17 October at 9PM. So stay tuned its going to be a roller-coaster.

South Africas got Talent semi Final 2

Posted by Unknown Jumat, 11 Oktober 2013 0 komentar
The second semi-final of South Africa's got talent took place yesterday evening, I was lucky enough to be part of the audience courtesy of S.A. Reviewer who gave away 3 tickets in an online competition via twitter. Thanks @S.A_Reviewer_1

South Africa's finally getting it right. After a long season, and a variety of performances ranging from dancing to singing to memorising numbers to eating chilli's to unicycling with bag pipes the last two rounds of semi finalists had their work cut out for them in what I think is one of the most competitive South Africa's got talent seasons ever!!!

Several acts keeping within the circus /acrobatic theme have made there way onto SAGT but unlike the many contestant who have entered SA Got talent who are jugglers, very few have exhibited the type of skill as shown by Siyabonga 'The Bambino Juggler" Swelindawo , his skills as a juggler were unmatched last night when he performed his act to a packed audience to the tunes of Justin Timberlakes Suit and tie, his song choice couldn't have been more appropriate as he executed his moves with style and elegance, I loved his performance and his energy and would like to see him up his game to make it into the finals

U.C.K, the talented young dub steppers from Ceres with their Entourage of fans were a crowd favourite, I love Dubstep and these boys really represented when they went on stage last night. If you've somehow missed the boat on the trendy, underground genre of heavy-on-the-bass electronic music, let U.C.K usher in a dance style that of late has taken the world by storm, U.C.K effortlessly interlaced the characteristic wobble of dub stepping to the filthy beats and massive bass drops and with each mind melting, head bobbing tune these boys arrested the audience with their refreshingly different style of dance poised with energy and enthusiasm that was definitely felt by the audience. I think they have what it takes to get to the final.

Lil Diezo, the young rapper from Potchefstroom, his music comes from a place of strength and humility, this boy is potentially my winner. Having only started rapping 2 years ago when he was 13 years old to where he is now is truly a remarkable feat. His performance last night was far more polished than the first time we saw him, his clearly more comfortable and far more confident as it was evident from his creative lyrics that incorporated all the judges as well as singing in another vernacular that clearly impressed Kabelo, I really hope that Daneoen wins, he has a bright future ahead of him.

And Finally Johnny Apple, Lil Diezo's biggest threat to winning SAGT and possibly the next big thing to come out of South Africa, he has the stage presence, he has the look, had the judges and the entire audience eating out his hand and most importantly he has an impressive voice that earned him a standing ovation  after his impressive rendition of James browns classic "This is a mans world" Johnny is definitely and audience favourite and judging from the twitter response the audience reaction and what I heard from listening to him live, he looks well on his way to becoming the 2013 winner of South Africa's got talent.

Be sure to watch the results show for semi final 2 that takes place on Saturday evening at 6:30pm to see if the contestant you voted for made it to the finals.

South Africa Got Talent - Episode 19 September 2013

Trevor Schoonraad- Pole Artist
Trevor Schoonraad the 35 year old pole artist from Woodstock, Cape Town, executed his performance with precision, agility and remarkable strength. I would really like to see him progress really far in SAGT but it maybe difficult to secure the judges satisfaction after this performance which has set everybody's expectations really high. Nevertheless, his performance is wonderous to behold.

Tronix - Electrifying dance group
Here's a local group who have added some flair to the normal run of the mill dance groups that we see every year at SAGT, with the stiff competition at SAGT this year, I'm curious to see if they will be able to sustain the interest with more riveting and possibly different dance routines.

ChilliBoy and Er.......Shado
The Guy in this video had a good plan, eating chillies while standing in a bucket of ice, unfortunately there was not enough ice in the bucket to put out the fire in his mouth. He seemed quite comfortable until his act was upstaged by Shado Twala, one of the shows hosts who decided to try out the chillies herself. Chilli boy seemed to look like he buckled under pressure and succumbed to Shado's star power, who from the video seriously looked she was more comfortable eating the chillies than Chillie boy was,  Shoo bra!!!........

Daneon Kruger- Rapper
Young Daneon Kruger performs on SA's got talent delivering a heartfelt rap about the ills of youth and growing up.

Although his performance seemed quite sincere, it lacked the energy and the strong will to really drive his powerful message to the listeners across to listeners but at the end, i think the judges were fair in passing through to next round. I'm sure they too are probably hoping that he will bring it next time around. I hope he does, he has a lot of potential.

Julian Wenn - Singer/ Entertainer
It's very evident from Julian's performance, that the producers have given a more serious look into the type of contestants they want to attract. The previous SAGT seemed to lack contestants that had the type of star quality we've seen from contestants like Julian and some of the other contestants featured in this season and more particularly in this episode. In fact as you will notice from some of the links attached to each of these reviews that several of the contestants in this season thus far come from a semi professional performing background. It definitely makes the show more competitive and worth watching.Click the links below to follow and learn more about and Julian and his "Wentertainment" company.

Arnold “uncle Numbers” Abrahams
One can't fault the confidence that some of these contestants have when they enter the stage. Uncle numbers seemed very confident in his ability its just a pity that he couldn't remember the numbers, I think he was quite entertaining however and if he didn't take himself so seriously and added more elements to his act, he could have turned his forgetfulness into a charming act.  I wonder if Kabelo was really telling the truth, about him getting Jaco's number wrong..........

Lloyd Kandlin - Acrobatic Clown
Its great that this year SA's Got Talent has attracted some interestingly unique acts, one of those acts is Lloyd Kandlin, I think he is a stunt clown of sorts, but his daredevil performance seems to suit his somewhat off the edge cartoon character persona which makes him very interesting to watch.

Siyabonga "Bob" Swelindawo - Juggler
Similar to the interestingly unique act above, several acts keeping within the circus /acrobatic theme have made there way onto SAGT but unlike the many contestant who have entered Sa Got talent who are jugglers, very few have exhibited the type of skill as shown by Siyabonga, and looking at some of his other performances, I got a feeling this dude is going to progress quite far into the show, watch this space.

Nadia Van Der Westhuizen - Singer
Nadia sparkled in her performance as a solo act. Ian made the right choice by asking her to sing on her own.I'm not to sure what her background in the entertainment industry is but she filled the stage and infected the entire audience with her boundless energy and her rendition of the famous Broadway musical New York New York. Lets hope that she has more variation to her repertoire.
